My Typing Assistants

Most evenings will find John and me in front of the TV watching our favorite shows, doing email and surfing on our laptops.  This is the time I do my blogs, too.  The other night I was having a particularly difficult time typing.  Spell checker was going crazy with the red underlines.  For some reason my arms were not reaching the keyboard and my fingers were going numb.  Alas, it was a case of too many cooks in the kitchen, or in this case, too many typists in the steno pool.  On the back of the chair is Buster.  The calico at the bottom is his sister, Xena.  They're my own cats.  Under my chin is Cane, then Trevor, both fosters and available for adoption.

I do have some very helpful cats and kittens.  They're always right there making sure I do everything correctly.  They hold the pages down for me when I'm reading a magazine.  They know they get sprayed with a water bottle if they get on the kitchen counter when I'm using it, but from their perch on the bar above the counter, they make sure I use the correct ingredients when fixing a meal.  They help me clean the counter off after I prepare anything resembling food. And then I wipe everything off with bleach water.  My mother won't eat my cooking, and I swear she thinks I'm the dirtiest person in the world and the cats are spreading all kinds of germs and diseases.  No, no OCD in my family.....    My mother also doesn't have, and will never have, a computer and will never see this.  I'm pretty sure she thinks she'll get sick from a computer virus and that the monitor emits too much radiation and will give her cancer.  No, no OCD at all......and, yes, you can eat off her garage floor.

  1. What a great picture! We can't imagine why you'd be having difficulty typing.

LOL @ your mom not eating your cooking, etc. It might not be so funny to deal with, but from a reader's point of view, it is. No offense intended! :-)

  2. I gotta laugh, my horde sits anywhere, sheds everything, and licks the butter! And I haven't been sick in years. Cat spit is MAGIC!

  3. I don't think any surface in my house is fit to eat off at present (yay construction). I wonder if grandma would come clean it--I imagine her kind of like a roomba, only with more sighing.

  4. I haven't written about my mother because I knew once I got started I wouldn't be able to stop. I could have you guys rolling on the floor with dumb, illogical stuff she does and says. When she moved up to O'Fallon 7 years ago, she washed EVERY cardboard packing box, inside and out, with hot soapy water before she packed anything - even basement, garage, and shed stuff. None of her groceries get put away without being wiped off with HSW (hot soapy water). Every can, box, and package. When I call her while doing errands and ask if I can pick something up for her from the store, she'll say she can use some milk, but that's all I'd be able to get for her. That means I'm not smart enough to pick out fresh vegetable. I'm 60 years old and too stupid to pick out carrots. See, I can't stop.

Okay, so maybe I don't get the bleach water out EVERY time I wipe the counters off, and maybe I've come in the kitchen and found a cat or two eating the chicken I've just taken out of the oven, and maybe they share my cereal some mornings, and yes, they do like butter, don't they. Cat spit IS magic! I do wish I could stop licking my hands, though.

  5. Hi Laura, (my daughter). If Grandma couldn't make the trip for your wedding, I doubt she'd come to clean. You wouldn't want her to, anyway. She'd take 4 hours to do each little chore. I saw my grandcats on your blog. They're so cute.

  6. Your are raising GOOD Supervisors! Not everyone gets the pleasure of a really good supervisor you know.
I just assumed whatever was in cat spit to make their coat not smell in the wild was pretty good antibiotic/killer of germs! It's been around longer then people meds!
I don't believe I have ever seen Trevor so lovable though......

  7. Oh that is so funny! I have the same problem at my house with my helpers! And oh it is so funny your mom thinks you are so messy - I am a total germ freak, but when it comes to the cats it totally doesn't bother me!

  8. Trevor's been coming around and being very helpful, lately. I think he's jealous of the kittens getting all the attention. I like to think I'm a pretty clean person, but feline bodily fluids don't upset me as much as they do other people. After you've gone through a few kittens with liquid diarrhea for several weeks, other messes pale in comparison.
